ABOUT

About

Hello, I am Bethan Manford. I am a UKCP Accredited and Registered Psychotherapist under the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College & a private practitioner with ADMP UK.

I have been practicing for 14 years with adults, children and families within the National Health Service (NHS) within the fields of mental health, disability, neurodevelopmental disorders and specialist neonatal care. I have experience in mental health within the community and also worked within inpatient NHS settings. I have assessed and supported those with diagnoses of personality disorders, anxiety, depression, psychosis, trauma and other conditions. I work collaboratively with the aim of understanding what has happened in ones life and how this impacts on communication, relationships and interactions.

I have specialist perinatal experience working with parents. I work inclusively with mothers and fathers during the antenatal and postnatal period and have a specialist role working with premature or sick term babies and parents when their baby is in the hospital (NICU or SCBU) and when they transition home with their newborn. I am passionate about my work with parents and babies and have furthered my skills in this area through my training in Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) which is an evidence based approach within UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. I am also training in EMDR currently.

My training incorporated an in-depth focus on the body, movement and nonverbal communication. I believe that the body is an important entity when exploring our emotional and psychological selves. I encourage consideration of mind-body integration using a variety of approaches including mindfulness, body and movement psychotherapy, narrative, systemic, person centred or psychodynamic. I am also an Iyengar yoga teacher and my studies have further developed my understanding of the body, mind and breath. My focus is around supporting you to think about positive aspects of your life and strengths alongside sharing concerns. I believe that people are experts of their own lives and I aim to help you experience that, working collaboratively on goals you want to focus on.
